Chapter 3

Reproduction is a process in which organisms are reproducing organisms like themselves. However, even if reproductive system plays an important role to keep species alive, not like other organs or systems in the body, it is not necessarily needed for a person to be alive.

Let Science Explains

In the process of human reproductive system, two types of sex cells or gametes will be required. This will be the male gamete or the sperm and the female gamete or also known as the ovum or egg. Both eggs will then meet at the reproductive system of the women. When the sperm fertilizes meaning, met the egg cell, the fertilized egg will be now called as zygote.

The zygote will then go through a series of steps to become an embryo and then, develop into what we call a fetus.

Teamwork

Both the female and male reproductive system are essential for a successful reproduction.

Humans much like any other organisms are passing some of their characteristics to their offspring. This is done through our genes which is the special carrier of our traits. Now, the genes that parents are passing along are what made children unique. These said genes all come from the female’s egg and male’s sperm.
